"The Island" - final submission

1 X BLOG, COMPLETE WITH WEEKLY TASKS
You're already on it :) http://alyssabenv2423.blogspot.com.au/

1 X STRATEGY STATEMENT

My strategy statement can be found in week 5's post. http://alyssabenv2423.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/week-5.html

"My strategy for the concealing and revealing of my letter/number combination (3 and O)to be embedded into my island is from the macro through to the micro is having sets of three's of small rocks, clumps of leaves in three piles, having three animals in an area- basically all the small ( and commonly surpassed) details will have a total of three. The "O" from my last name is revealed in the O shape of the island, and the mountain tips will be a small O. At the top of my snowy mountain, there will be a mysterious man living there alone- the person who found the island is just one man who's an Oceanographer (a scientist who studies physical and biological aspects of the seas) who makes a living out of observing sea creatures. So naturally there will be objects which will emphasize this oceanographers presence with places where he can study the sea, on a boat,a car to travel the island with etc. The O will also be revealed in the edges of some of sides of the ocean revealing a half O."

5 X IMAGES OF DRAFT CRYENGINE3 ENVIRONMENT

More than 5 images of my draft cryengine 3 environment can be found in my posts from weeks 3 and 4 of this blog.

1 X 120 SECOND (MAX) VIDEO TRAILER

1 X FULLY DEVELOPED CRYENGINE3 ENVIRONMENT & FILES TO “PLAY” TEST CRYSIS WARS ENVIRONMENT

Please open the link to media fire below:

I split the files into 5 because they were taking too long to upload, so once you've downloaded the file highlight ALL files at the same time and right click and extract to the folder you want.

Week 6

1) I can't upload the images of 2 marking schedules filled out for my work  by 2 other students because I was away on the day that we had to do this.

2) I've used flowgraphs in my island Flowgraphs for the movement of my man, the oceanographer.

Dragon flying animation

man driving boat animation

3) My flowgraph for the clean user interface

Numbers 4 to 6 can be found in the post above.
[4) Refine your island, making it a realistic, fleshed-out environment with little details that make it look and feel professional.
5) Upload your trailer to Youtube. Important: the length of the trailer is limited to 120 seconds!
6) Upload your zipped FreeSDK folder (the whole installation + your level) and provide a link from your blog.]

Week 5

My cryengine file is displaying an error at the bottom of the screen showing a warning message in yellow (see image below) and as a result of that the whole file has been corrupted. >:(

So what I have to work with is a file that I have saved way back before I created all the effects like the sky and decals etc.

My strategy for the concealing and revealing of my letter/number combination (3 and O)to be embedded into my island is from the macro through to the micro is having sets of three's of small rocks, clumps of leaves in three piles, having three animals in an area- basically all the small ( and commonly surpassed) details will have a total of three- (in the final video I will have a tag on the side pointing out on what to look out for!). The "O" from my last name is revealed in the O shape of the island, and the mountain tips will be a small O. At the top of my snowy mountain, there will be a mysterious man living there alone- the original owner of the island just one man who's an Oceanographer (a scientist who studies physical and biological aspects of the seas.) So naturally there will be objects with will emphesize this oceanographers presence with places where he can study the sea, on a boat,a car to travel the island with etc. The O will also be revealed in the edges of some of sides of the ocean revealing a half O.

1. Mushrooms, Lillypads, Leaves in three groups. (small)

2. Frogs, fishes and turtles in groups of threes

3.  A bird soaring above the island in an O shape

4.  One house at the top of the mountain for the oceanographer :)

5.  The whole island makes out to be the letter O.

Week 3

Task for today

Remake of my environment

Geocontrol screenshot
I had to remake my geocontrol and cryengine environment because my usb got wiped :( so below are some updated shots of what I made.

Cryengine environment import.

Cryengine inspiration from 4 reference images

My fifth reference image is of the swiss alps

Below is a quick video of my environment :)

Week 2

Different images of landscapes:

1.

Plateau Landscape
Vegetation: Scarce vegetation, mostly plants that can withstand the heat and lack of water.
Terrain:  Dry land, with rocky plateaus that seem to come out of a small hill then rises to make a mini mountain.
Lighting: The photo seems to be taken in the late afternoon, so the lighting is a bit dimmer in addition, the clouds that spread  across the sky mimic the darker colours of the plateau.

2.
Swiss Alps, Switzerland

Vegetation: There is an abundance of grass that cover the less mountainous area, whilst the mountain has no apparent vegetation.
Terrain: The Swiss Alps have quite a rough terrain, mainly because of the mountain's rocky surface whilst the base of the mountain have a more softer look because of the vegetation.
Lighting:
It looks like it's about mid-day. The natural sunlight gives an effect of a picturesque landscape although there is a hazy feel to the top of the mountain because of its height, it almost seems to fade into the sky.

3.
Desert

Vegetation: Scarce vegetation, mostly shrubs/plants called spinifex grass.
Terrain: The terrain encases small hills of sand, but where there is no sand there is rocks that are protruding from the ground.
Lighting:
The lighting from the sun envelopes the desert, the light allows the rocks that stick out of the ground to clearly define the shape of itself with the shadows that are cast by the sun.

4.
Forest
Vegetation: Small shrubs can be seen from the bottom and some grass. The majority of the forest is taken up by tall trees.
Terrain: From this picture, the terrain seems smooth and has no sign of any hills or mountains.
Lighting: The lighting has a muffled effect of light that comes from behind the trees. It is evident that the sun is setting by the yellow/orange colour of the light which sets a mystical mood to the landscape.

5.
Catalina Island
Vegetation: Trees are mostly seen from the top, and grass covers the higher parts of the island.
Terrain: The Island has a rocky terrain coming from the bottom where the water touches the island. It seems that the rocky terrain comes from the erosion from the water and wind.
Lighting: The lighting seems to be coming from the mid-day or morning sunlight. I found that it's worthwhile to note that the farther away the island is, the hazier the land is.

Image of my country of origin:

Philippines :)

Vegetation: Treesare evident from the top to the bottom of the land, and also most likely has plants, shrubs and grass.
Terrain: It is flat until the mountain rises up from the flat terrain, where it presents an irregular and rocky terrain as it reaches the top of the mountain.
Lighting: The lighting is quite nice as it sets a relaxing view to the image, although the clouds distort the light as it covers some of the mountain and give a mysterious feeling.

GeoControl.

The basis for my work is the image of Catalina Island, I wanted it to have more of an island feel, not a massive land mass like a desert or the alps :)
The letter and number that is in the image below is 3 and o just incase it wasn't obvious enough

I tried to add the texture in but it's not adding!!! I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I followed the tutorial and it's still not working so I think i'm going to create another island and start over ...

Second island

The island ended up looking like wet sand on a beach .. when the waves destroy it. My question is .. why does it end up like it gets ruined when it's imported into cryengine, but in geocontrol it looks 100x better than it actually is?
